Obama signs defense spending bill — with reservations

Obama signs defense spending bill — with reservations: The fact that I support this bill as a whole does not mean I agree with everything in it," Obama said in a signing statement appended to the measure. "In particular, I have signed this bill despite having serious reservations with certain provisions that regulate the detention, interrogation and prosecution of suspected terrorists."

The National Defense Authorization Act seeks to curb cost overruns of Lockheed Martin Corporation's F-35 fighter for the fiscal year that began Oct. 1. Lawmakers, frustrated by delays and cost overruns, ordered the Pentagon to make Lockheed Martin absorb costs if it exceeds a negotiated target in a forthcoming sixth F-35 production contract.

The Defense Department is currently negotiating the fifth contract for the F-35. At $382 billion, it is the Pentagon's largest weapons program.

In the name of the father is a movie all Americans should see if they want to know what it looks like to be arrested under our new law of detention. Very scary.

» NDAA Gives Pentagon Green Light to Wage Internet War Alex Jones' Infowars: There's a war on for your mind!: Congress affirms that the Department of Defense has the capability, and upon direction by the President may conduct offensive operations in cyberspace to defend our Nation, Allies and interests, subject to–

(1) the policy principles and legal regimes that the Department follows for kinetic capabilities, including the law of armed conflict; and

(2) the War Powers Resolution (50 U.S.C. 1541 et seq.).

In July, the Pentagon released its cybersecurity plan. It declared the internet a domain of war but did not specify how the military would use it for offensive strikes. The report claimed that hostile parties “are working to exploit DOD unclassified and classified networks, and some foreign intelligence organizations have already acquired the capacity to disrupt elements of DOD’s information infrastructure.” In addition, according to the Pentagon, “non-state actors increasingly threaten to penetrate and disrupt DOD networks and systems.”

» ‘Indefinite Detention’ Bill Heads To Obama’s Desk As White House Drops Veto Threat Alex Jones' Infowars: There's a war on for your mind!: “The House on Wednesday afternoon approved the rule for the 2012 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), setting up an hour of debate and a vote in the House later this afternoon,” reports the Hill.

Mainstream news outlets like The Hill, as well as neo-con blogs like Red State, are still pretending the indefinite detention provision doesn’t apply to American citizens, even though three of the bill’s primary sponsors, Senator Carl Levin, Senator John McCain, and Senator Lindsey Graham, said it does during speeches on the Senate floor.

» The Indefinite Detention Bill DOES Apply to American Citizens on U.S. Soil Alex Jones' Infowars: There's a war on for your mind!

» The Indefinite Detention Bill DOES Apply to American Citizens on U.S. Soil Alex Jones' Infowars: There's a war on for your mind!: The ACLU notes:

Don’t be confused by anyone claiming that the indefinite detention legislation does not apply to American citizens. It does. There is an exemption for American citizens from the mandatory detention requirement (section 1032 of the bill), but no exemption for American citizens from the authorization to use the military to indefinitely detain people without charge or trial (section 1031 of the bill). So, the result is that, under the bill, the military has the power to indefinitely imprison American citizens, but it does not have to use its power unless ordered to do so.
