Israel-backed terrorist team arrested in Iran
It seems that intelligence cold war is going on between Iran and Israel. Leadership of Iran has also been alleging Britain and other European countries of operating their covert missions in Iran to kill physicists and atomic scientists. President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has repeatedly said that Iran is in the state of war with the United States and Israel because these countries, according to Ahmadinejad, are planning to strike on nuclear facilities of the country.
On Tuesday, Intelligence Ministry of Iran claimed to have arrested a gang of terrorists allegedly backed by Israel. The ministry officials said that intelligence officials succeeded to arrest the terrorists following a struggle of months to track them down. The officials alleged the terrorists were funded and sponsored by Israel and were planning to attack nuclear scientists and nuclear sites in the country. The terror plan was foiled, the ministry officials were quoted by the state-run Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA) as saying.
However, it was not specified where exactly these terrorists were arrested from. The ministry also did not specify numbers of terrorists. Iranian leadership claimed that the terrorists were headquartered in a country in the region but failed to identify the country. Intelligence officials of Iran believe the terrorists are seeping into the country through neighboring Azerbaijan. They also believe that Israel is carrying out a covert operation in Iran through Azerbaijan.
Israeli authorities have, however, declined to comment on the allegation. Israel fears if Iran succeeds in developing nuclear bomb the balance of power in the region will be disturbed. Also, Israel faces existential threats from Iran as President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has said for a number of times that Israeli state is illegitimate and will be wiped out from the face of the Earth if something bad happens to Iran. Civil and military leadership of Iran has repeatedly said the country is not developing atomic bomb rather their nuclear program is for medical research and to fulfill energy needs of the country.
