Japan-China currency deal aims high | The Japan Times Online: The yuan and the yen — the currencies of Asia's two biggest economies — started direct trading Friday in Tokyo and Shanghai.

The increase in economic cooperation comes despite constant political disputes, including bickering over the sovereignty of the Senkaku Islands in the East China Sea and Beijing's criticism of Tokyo just last month for allowing Uighurs, a minority calling for independence from China, to hold a world congress in Japan.
