Tasered Woman Brain Dead; Trooper's Actions "Within Scope of his Duties"
Two state agencies have cleared Florida Highway Patrol Trooper Daniel Cole of wrongdoing last September when he tasered a young suspect in a hit-and-run accident as she frantically tried to escape. The burly Cole was within reach of Danielle Maudsley, 20, who was handcuffed and had drugs in her system. She fell and hit her head hard on the pavement; she has been in a coma ever since, and doctors say it is unlikely she will wake up. Cole says he would not have done anything differently. The incident was caught on a cruiser dashcam, including the sound of Maudsley's head hitting the ground and her sobbing that she could not get up. Warning: Video is disturbing. It also makes it clear it's past time for better taser regulations.
