Guy Steward, 18, told amNew York newspaper that after the “mass police brutality” of Saturday, “morale is as high as it can be” and that the protesters ranks have grown.
Protesters have been reinvigorated in part by videos shared that show people being maced and arrested on and around Wall Street.
Police said most of the arrests were for blocking traffic, and one person was charged with assaulting an officer. The Daily Beast reports that NYPD is now facing criticism about what may have been excessive force.

Video posted by the group Occupy Wall St from the eighth day of protests against corporations show police using Tasers and mace to control the crowd, which the group says has only made it more committed to keep up the demonstrations in lower Manhattan for the long haul.
A New York Police Department spokeswoman today confirmed the group’s claim that approximately 80 people were arrested Saturday, mainly for disorderly conduct and obstructing vehicular and pedestrian traffic.
“One person was arrested for assaulting a police officer,” she said.

Wall Street Protests Gain Steam as Videos of Alleged Police Brutality Go Viral
Wall Street Protests Gain Steam as Videos of Alleged Police Brutality Go Viral: Reports about the size of crowds and the stamina of protesters at Wall Street in New York City vary, but several videos from the “Occupy Wall Street” protests have gone viral and some protesters allege that an overzealous NYPD has been forcefully restraining and even macing peaceful protesters.
Ten days in (the Wall Street protests began September 17th) it seems the movement is gaining steam rather than petering out, with 80 arrests made over the weekend by the NYPD at the site of the demonstrations in downtown Manhattan. 25-year-old Chelsea Elliott is one of the women in the video who is visibly corralled behind orange netting- a crowd control practice known as “kettling”- before, she says, police used mace or pepper spray on the women (who do not appear to be violent), causing them to shriek in pain. Elliott spoke to the New York Times about the incident, video of which has spread violently:
